Stop Writing Boring Stories: Write Like This Instead
There’s a simple fix that can turn bland sentences into a page-turner.
Let me hit you with some truth: if your writing sounds like stage directions in a bad school play, your readers are already snoozing.
STOP👏WRITING👏THE👏SAME👏SENTENCE👏OVER👏AND👏OVER.
Here’s the deal: I’ve beta-read a lot of stories, and half of them read like this:
“I went to the cupboard. I looked for the tea. No tea. So I checked the fridge for milk. Found it. Grabbed a cup. Poured it. Drank it. Sighed. The end.”
Okay, cool. It’s functional. But by paragraph 50 of this rinse-and-repeat style? Even your mom would stop reading.
The Problem with “I Did This, Then That…”
If all your sentences are just “I did this, then I did that,” your writing starts to feel like stage directions:
❌ Action, action, action.
❌ No variety.
❌ Zero vibes.
And guess what? Your readers will check out faster than a Black Friday sale. Agents? They’ll hit “reject” before finishing their coffee.
